Why spend your precious holiday in Competa? For all the reasons we chose to live here! It is within an hour of Malaga airport, 30 minutes from the coast and Baviera golf course and the El Ingenio shopping center. In two hours you can be skiing on the Sierra Nevada mountains or walking round the world famous Alhambra or howling with the wolves at the Loba park! The countryside and walking around us is just fantastic. The landscapes are wide, quiet and full of amazing plants and animals.

Those are the reasons you might choose to arrive in Competa. However the reason people stay is that Competa is a special place. It is big enough, with enough foreign influence, to offer an interesting and diverse scene without having lost its Spanish mountain heart. The local people here are lovely and this is a safe and wonderfully relaxing place to get some downtime. You will be spoken to in Spanish but if you struggle most people will revert to English and even if the locals do not know any English they will be patient and helpful with you.

There are loads of free events held throughout the year that get Spanish and foreign residents as well as visitors out together having fun. There are bike races, foam parties, a week long summer festival, a wine festival with flamenco music and dance, a day of activities for Walk for Life and an annual dog show to name but a few!

We are blessed with brilliant bars and restaurants. Every one has a speciality or a reason to visit them; here are just some of them. Las Gemelas – best pil pil and views, El Pilon – best all round restaurant, El Curro’s – amazing steak, Pacos’s – best wine list, Lorena’s – best fish platter, Alberdini – most amazing building, Yoga and Pilates, La Posada – Best black pudding, Pavo Real – best Sunday Lunch, La Bodega – best toasted ham and cheese, Fernan’s – best fish and chips and chilli, best wine by the glass – Hotel Balcon, Teteria – best tajine and live music, Museo – best brandies and rabbit, Perico’s – best chicken in Competa wine, Casona – best sharing meals……..and the list goes on!

We have lots of hairdressers and treatments available in the village. Two salon’s are owned and staffed by British families. Just let us know if you would like an appointment making before you arrive.

Before coming out have a look through the latest edition of the grapevine magazine which covers Competa and the surrounding villages. It is full of information & offers from local bars & shops, it lists live music and local events as well has containing phone numbers for taxi’s and bus times. You can view it online for free or pick up a copy when you arrive from lots of places around the village.
